Does Labor need tech?

I’ve worked for funds co-sponsored by labor and management for 28 years.  During this period, the value of data processing and IT to productivity is without question.  Yet, our friends in labor are often slow to adopt.    If an organization has a website, check for hyperlinks, often rare.  Databases are even rarer.  Want to know whose a union friendly provider, some trades have such a list, many do not.  Refer stakeholders to the website and hear “I don’t do computers.”

    Over the past few days I’ve called some labor organizations, left voice mails and got no returned calls. Two e-mails were never responded, a third the mail box is broken. Soon, labor will be all old men, talking about how it used to be…

    This week, three voicemails to labor org’s were not returned. Two e-mails to separate addresses were never answered. A third e-mail box is broken. So labor will consist of old white men talking about how it used to be.
